About

Chief writer and editrix Janelle Harris was the kid with an extra sheet of paper stapled to the back of her English homework, the girl who couldn’t settle for just checking a “yes,” “no” or “maybe” box on an elementary school love note. That longstanding passion for the written word has shaped 10 years of experience as a freelance writer, editor and blogger with a particular interest and specialty in women’s issues and Black culture.

Equipped with the vision and skill to transform ideas into compelling copy, Janelle has built a reputation for producing attention-getting content for clients and outlets including Essence, Ebony, VibeHeart & Soul, UpscaleUptown, The Stir, MediaBistro, Yahoo and Clutch. Based in Washington, DC—but never limited by geography (or anything else for that matter)—she can work editorial wonders on projects including:

  • Brochures
  • Reports
  • Book, dissertation and thesis edits
  • Website copy
  • Email or print newsletters
  • Event programs
  • Press releases
  • Magazine articles
  • Wedding vows
  • Ghostwriting
  • Bios and business profiles
  • Email blasts
  • Books and other custom published pieces
  • Direct mailings
  • Grant reviews
  • Marketing copy

In the rare moments when she’s not on deadline, the proud Lincoln University alumna and mother of a fabulous daughter, Skylar, is actively involved in her church and community. Time spent away from her laptop and beloved smart phone is time spent roller skating, reading Harlem Renaissance literature, playing Scramble with Friends and feeding her admitted addiction to wedding shows and crime TV.
